| ACTIVE RELEASE THERAPY (ART®) |
Active Release Therapy (ART®) is a specialized soft tissue therapy that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. ART® is very effective in dealing with occupational, sport, and repetitive strain injuries and disorders.
Muscle overuse and soft tissue injury can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, joint dysfunction and irritation, inflammation, loss of strength, pain, tingling, and numbness. Through the use of specific movements with precisely directed tension, ART® aims to accomplish the following:
- Removes adhesions and scar tissue in soft tissues
- Restores optimal texture, motion, and function of soft tissues and releases any entrapped nerves or blood vessels
- Increases circulation to the area being treated and flushes away waste products arising from injury
- Increases muscular strength and allows joints to move more freely
- Promotes overall relaxation of the whole body, which alleviates stress and promotes a sense of well-being.
Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART®. ART® can be performed as a stand-alone therapy and also has excellent results in combination with other therapies such as
standard chiropractic treatments,
Medical Acupuncture,
Electrotherapy,
and
Rehabilitative Exercise and Physical Therapy.
